Marcy McKee, Ph.D.

      Active as a performer, Dr. Marcy McKee has performed throughout the United States and Europe. Most recently, she sang the role of Mercedes in Bizet’s Carmen in Rome, Italy. Highlighted roles include Lady Billows from Albert Herring, Donna Anna from Don Giovanni, and the Witch from Hänsel and Gretel, however, her favorite role was as Kathi, the yodeling postwoman, from Im Weissen Rössl. Marcy currently sings with a group promoting the ever-evolving AIDS Quilt Songbook. This ensemble has presented at the International Congress of Voice Teachers in Vienna, Austria, the College Music Society, southern regional conference, National Association of Teachers of Singing, regional conference, and will be performing for World AIDS Day on December 1, 2023, at the University of Nebraska. Dr. McKee is a two-time winner of the North Dakota division of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Last December, Marcy was a semifinalist in the Premier Opera Foundation’s International Vocal Competition in New York City.

     

In August, Dr. Marcy McKee was awarded tenure and promotion from Northwestern State University. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts in 2016 from Arizona State University and earned her Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from West Texas A&M University. Marcy teaches voice, lyric diction, and performance literature at NSU. Her previous faculty appointments have been at Bemidji State University, Arizona State University, West Texas A&M University, and Central Arizona College. Dr. McKee’s research interests are in learning styles and how they facilitate a student’s ability to learn, as well as Koru Mindfulness for young adults. Additionally, Dr. McKee is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society, and Mu Phi Epsilon, a professional music fraternity.
